Chris Columbus’s highly entertaining horror comedy is back in 4K and whatever you do, don’t expose your mogwai to bright light, get it wet or feed it after midnight – we’re not prepared to put on SNOW WHITE and… well, let’s just say, our insurance won’t cover it.

Let’s just say one of those rules will be broken and as a result, some not-so-cute or friendly creatures are spawned – referred to as gremlins. Gizmo (and his eventual Gremlin counterparts) were created using practical and mechanical puppets, that—again for the day—were pretty groundbreaking. Effects are well taken care of by all the speakers, so when the Gremlins are wreaking havoc around the town square, the destruction they wrought as well as their chatters and the screams of the people provide a decent sense of immersion. A broad and spacious imaging exhibits a superbly clean and extensive mid-range even in the loudest segments, maintaining excellent detailed clarity in the higher frequencies with precise, well-prioritized vocals. lossless audio mix that is found here comes in a new format (DTS-HD Master Audio) but it really doesn’t seem all that much different than the mix (in Dolby TrueHD) found on the Blu-ray counterpart.
