Description

It can be best done by a deliberate exercise of dis-identification and self-identification. Through it we gain the freedom and the power of choice to be identified with, or dis-identified from, any aspect of our personality, according to what seems to us most appropriate in each situation. Thus we can learn to master, direct, and utilise all the elements and aspects of our personality, in an inclusive and harmonious synthesis. Therefore this exercise is considered as basic in psychosynthesis. Synthesis is therefore a kind of unity in diversity, with each organ having its own individual nature and function, while also being aligned with the greater purpose of the whole. This type of synthesis does not occur naturally in the psychological world, but there are means to achieve it. Another point to note: This is not the truth. If parts of this concept do not resonate with you, take what you need and discard the rest. It is fair to say that we are all in constant relationship, and that we have a unique mode of being in every situation, depending on who we are surrounded by.

Your response to meaningful events in your life: note occasions on which you are aware of ‘synchronicity’. Moreover, we may find some gold among the sawdust. Perhaps the subpersonality you’ve previously regarded as a show-off turns out to be a powerful ally in instilling a confident sense of self. Or you may tap into a highly motivating subpersonality you’d all but forgotten about. This is a modification of ‘The Evening Review”. It consists of reviewing your day from the point of view of the three main personality aspects: your body, your feelings, and your mind.

Take time to practice, as preparation, the Dis-identification Exercise (No. 4), using whatever version you have found most helpful. e. What we can become: these are known as the ideal models we create based on a thorough analysis of our personality, or based upon our intuition. We are dominated by everything with which our self becomes identified. We can dominate, direct, and utilise everything from which we dis-identify ourselves.

Psychosynthesis Exercises for Personal & Spiritual Growth Compiled and Edited by Thomas Yeomans, Ph.D. The mind, with its billions of neurons, is like a community made from smaller communities. The communities at the highest level (right under the level of wholeness) are something I like to call subpersonalities or inner voices… They are the competing aspects of ourselves, which try to govern the whole.” - Douglas Hofstadter

Were my subpersonalities in harmony with what I wanted to do, or did I have to go along with them? What part did I take in harmonizing and directing them?

Now bring into this awareness a sphere of empty space, say, a foot across. Let this spherical space expand gradually in diameter to a yard, five hundred feet, a mile, ten miles, a thousand miles, etc., again allowing the increments to emerge naturally. Then, when you are holding a great and empty space, let it go “on out” to infinity and hold infinity in your awareness. Experience this. Now let it go and simply be aware. This modification of “The Evening Review” consists of reviewing your day from the point of view of your subpersonalities.
